Job Costing

    The Job Costing section is used to define the functionality of the Job Costing settings and classifications that are to be used by the Job Costing Module. Job Costing enables you to assign employees to particular Job Costing Classifications and Categories and also to produce Job Costing Reports per classification category or employee.

     

    Job Costing Classifications


    The Job Costing Classifications are the different Company defined Classifications that can also to be used for Job Costing.

    To view or edit the Job Costing Classifications that are to be used, proceed as follows:
     

    1. Select the Features option from the Setup drop-down menu or click on the Features toolbar button. The Turn Features On and Off window will be displayed.

    2. Select the Costing Classifications settings option.
    3. Use the Classification check boxes and select the classifications that are to be used for Job Costing.

      Note: The Job Costing Classifications that will be available for selection is dependent on which company classifications have been selected using the Classification option.
       
    4. Select the Ok button to save and activate the selected classifications.

      Note: The Job Classification is used if particular dedicated Jobs are to be managed and also normally where cost and billing is involved.

    Job Costing Features


    The Job Costing Features are additional features that are available when using the Job Classification within the Job Costing Module.

    To view or edit the Job Costing Features that are to be used, proceed as follows:
     

    1. Select the Features option from the Setup drop-down menu or click on the Features toolbar button. The Turn Features On and Off window will be displayed.
    2. Select the Job Features setting option.

    3. Use the check boxes to select which Job Costing Features are to be used with the Job Costing Module. The options are:
    1. Charge Rates. This option will enable the Costing and Billing rates to be defined and used when managing a Job.
    2. Quantities. This option enables quantities to be associated with different jobs.
    3. Customers. This option enables a Customer to be associated with different jobs.
    4. Optionally Reset Classifications. This option enables employee Job Classifications to be reset daily.
    5. Assign Costings to Slots. This option enables the Costing options to be active when defining Daily Shifts where a shift can be assigned to a particular Job.
    6. Assign Charge rates based on Classification.  Charge rates are assigned according to classification. See http://docs.tnasoftware.com/User_Module/Charge_Rates#Creating_Classification_Costing_Rules for more information.
    7. Attach costing classification to clocks.  Link a classification e.g. Branch, Department or Cost Centre to a clocking point i.e. job hours are allocated to these classification depending on which station an employee clocked at.
    8. Follow-my-leader job clockings.  A team leader can clock onto jobs for all the member of his/her team. For more information see http://docs.tnasoftware.com/User_Module/Follow-My-Leader_Job_Clockings
    1. Select the Ok button to save and activate the selected Job Costing Features.

    Job Costing Charge Rates

    The Job Costing Charge Rates are used to define the different “cost to company” and “charge-out” rates that are to be used when working with the Job Costing Module.

     

    View the Job Costing Charge Rates


    To view the Job Costing Charge Rates, proceed as follows:
     

    1. Select the Charge Rates option from the Setup, Job Costing drop-down menu and the Browse Charge Rate window will be displayed.

      The Browse Charge Rate window provides the following:
    1. Charge Rate List. This is a list of all charge rates that have been defined and provides the Code and Description of the Charge Rates.
    2. Add button. This button is used to add a new Charge Rate to the list.
    3. Change button. This button is used to change a selected and highlighted Charge Rate in the list.
    4. Remove button. This button is used to remove a selected and highlighted Charge Rate from the list.

    Adding a Job Costing Charge Rate


    To add a new Charge Rate to be used by the Job Costing Module, proceed as follows:

    1. When the Browse Charge Rate File window is displayed, select the Add button. The Record Will Be Added window will be displayed.

    2. Enter the Code and Description that is to be used to identify the particular Charge Rate.
    3. In the Cost columns, for each Shift Time Rate, click on and then enter the “cost to company” for each daily Shift Time Category.
    4. In the Bill columns, for each Shift Time Rate, click on and then enter the “Charge out at rate” for each daily Shift Time Category.
    5. In the Factors columns, for each Shift Time Rate, click on and then enter the Leave and Holiday factors that have to be taken into consideration.
    6. Once all relevant Charge Rate information has been added, select the Ok button to save the information and to add the Charge Rate to the list.   

    Changing a Job Costing Charge Rate


    To change an existing Job Costing Charge Rate in the list, proceed as follows:

    1. When the Browse Charge Rate window is displayed, select and highlight the Charge Rate to be changed and then click on the Change button. The Update Charge Rate window will be displayed.
    2. Make the necessary changes and then click on the Ok button to save the changes.

    Remove a Job Costing Charge Rate


    To remove an existing Job Costing Charge Rate from the list, proceed as follows:

    1. When the Browse Charge Rate window is displayed, select and highlight the Charge Rate to be removed and then click on the Remove button.
    2. When the delete confirmation window is displayed click on the Yes button to remove the selected Charge Rate from the list.
